Thackery Hi I keep trying this again as I am sure the Hantons and perhaps the Thackery families on this site are connected to my Grandfather. My Great grandfather moved to Rotherham, probably Masborough from Norfolk sometime around 1870. His name was William Hanton (I found a marriage to Emily Hodsen and William Woods Hanton in 1872)My Grandfather was born in 1873, John Thomas Hanton but always known as Thomas. As they were the only Hantons in Rotherham at this time I am presuming the series of several boy babies born and then died in their first year were his brothers.I also found a william Wood Hanton born in Sheffield in 1875 but I cannot find a connection only the name and that Emily came from Sheffield. In the 1881 census the family were living in Kimberworth with my Grandad wrongly aged at one and a brother Albert Edgar born that year. I have not found any other trace of Albert but there are children being registered in Rotherham about the time he was in his early 20s,Emily, Hilda when my grand father was in Hull. My Grandad married Fanny Hinchcliffe of Kimberworth 20th May 1894.William Hanton lost his wife Emily in childbirth in 1893 along with her newly born daughter also Emily. There was also another daughter I think called Elizabeth Ann who died in 1898 aged 12. My Grandad John Thomas moved to Hull and I found him in the 1901 census under Thomas with wife Fanny, Children John W ,Sarah Ann and Thomas Frederick. We do not know what happened after that as he was supposed to have lost his memory. He married my Grandmother Aug 1920, she was 25 he was reg as 39 but was infact 49. The next entry in the register is a Sarah Ann Hanton married Willie Thackery the same quarter 1920. I am sure this his daughter. My Mum was born in 1927, one of 5 children. Grandad died in 1966 aged 93. His second family had no idea that he had another family. If this rings bells with anybody please contact me as I have other info. Thank, I know this is a long one
