JAMES ALBERT SMITH - was my grandfather - he was born in Ipswich[eldest of 9 children] in around the 1890s [possibly 1898?]. He joined the Royal Navy when he was 16 and left in the mid 1930s - was stationed in Malta during that time. He married Florence 'Gertie' Barnes in 1932 and they lived in Poole, Dorset. His mother was 'Fannie' Ford - youngest child was Fred who I last heard from in 1998 - he is married to Eileen - I think living possibly in Malvern - Fred also joined the Royal Navy and fought in WWII and wrote a book about it. The other children included - Glenn, John[?], William[?], Winnie and Kate and one more. There must be a very large family out there and I would like to get back in touch with them all - anyone who knows them - [or thinks you do] please get in touch. |
