I am trying to find any details of the deaville family, especially the parents of Thomas Deaville and Ann Slaney both born approx 1720. Also any information which might link the Deaville family to Croxton Abbey, which was built between the 10th and 12th century.

Hello Barbara
I was just glancing through old messages on the message board for G.R. and found one from yourself relating to Thomas Deaville and Ann Slaney from Croxden c1720. These two are my gggg grandparents. I too am having difficulty in finding their history. There are still Deavilles and Slaneys in that area. I am not sure but feel that the Deavilles came from Marchington. Having spent hours at the records office have still drawn a blank. I plan to go back to Croxden in the spring and try to meet a Mrs Gent who's husband has a position in the church and a long history in the village, in the hope that they may be able to shed some light. Your message is now nearly two years old, you may not get it but if you do have you achieved any more and what relationship have you to Tom and Ann?
Many regards
Gill

Barbara
I have noticed a message a message from a Gill on your message board dated dec 2007, reference to the Deavilles.
I am related to John Deaville born 1791 in
Elkston Staffordshire. His son John De Ville born 1831 in Marchington Staffordshire.I notice Gill mentioned Marchington. Any connection. i am a great great grand daughter. Susan De Ville.

Hi I'm trying to look at the Deaville family tree. I was always told that the Deavilles came from France, Brittany I believe. During the revolultion there one male Deaville escaped and landed in Hull. There he proceeded to drink and gamble all his money away. There was a family bible but this was left in a (females) will to her solicitor.
My grandmother was Florence Deaville and she also said that at one point the family had some connections with Sunderland.
Don't know how much of the above is true
