Spraggons, spraggins, spraggens and even spraggeus are derrivatives of the surname spraggon an anglo-saxon name, that was first (it is believed) mentioned in Kent. A large nest of Spraggons can be found in Sussex - Little Waldingfield and Preston, all of which are related. Russell Spraggons was listed in an early post office directory of 1875 as living in Preston and being a landowner, farmer and miller. His parents, Joseph and Sarah, came from Little Waldingfield, Suffolk, where they had a sizeable farm of 286 acres. The farm was known as South Hall Farm. Descendants of that large family also moved to London. |
