I am trying to trace parents of a Mary Wright (or McArthur) who was possibly born in Cumbernauld Scotland, or Dunning Perthishire. She is my grandmothers grandmother, and we are unclear as to the legitimacy of Mary Wright (McArthur)'s birth. My grandmother believes Mary Wright to have been born out of wedlock in around 1866. and handed over to a wealthy family to be raised to avoid the illegitimacy from becoming common knowledge. My problem is that Mary's name appears as Mary Wright on her sons birth certificate, and as Mary McArthur on her (same) sons wedding certificate!! Mary was a domestic servant and married James Miller, a coal miner, in 1886 in Cumbernauld, i believe they then moved to Slamannan. The had two boys David Miller (who died quite young) and James Miller born 1998, who is my grandmothers father. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, no matter how vague, i would love to hear from you. Hannah Hume |
