Hello, I am trying to find relatives of David Roberts Ellis born ca 1840 in Wales (we believe, Carmarthen). His death certificate says that his mother was Catherine 'Kate' Bassett and that his father's name was 'John'. My problem is that we believe that David's father died when he was approximately 4 years old and his mother remarried. The question: Did David take his original father's name or that of his new father? Which was 'Ellis'? If John was 'Ellis' what was his new father's name?....or if his new father was 'Ellis', what is his real father's name? David emmigrated to the United States and joined the U.S. navy in 1862, just in time to be on the USS Monitor during the battle of the Monitor vs the Merrimac. After the war he married Martha Jane Keck, became a minister and had 5 children. Any information that you might have on his parents or if you have a linking family tree, I would love to hear from you. Thanks. Bill Ellis
