Pammenter derivative of Parmentier the most famous of whome introduced the Potato to france! hence Potage Parmentier or translated potato soup. As the Name is most common around Peterborough and Cambridgeshire there is a strong possibility that the family crossed to England with William the conquerer and may well have been involved with the Cathedral at Peterborough which was considered by the Normans to be very important due to it being the only place other than Rome which it was authorised to make a pilgramage too. Another reason that it may be assumed that this branch has been in the Country for a long time is the amount the name has changed from the original. |
