The name McClintock originated in Scotland around the Loch Lomond area. It means "son of the disciple of Fintag". The spelling McClintock TENDS to happen in Ireland, mostly in Northern Ireland. In Scotland it TENDS to be spelt McLintock. The first McClintock who is known to have gone to Ireland (Donegal) is Alexander McC. who went there in the late 1590's, having "killed the wrong man in a battle", so family legend has it. |
