Update to the posting by Robert Hone back in March. Oldest Hone that I know of is a Wakelin de Hone in Devon in 1204 This would suggest Norman origin. Gallion Hoon came from the Low Countries (maybe Holland, he is normally described as Flemish) in early 1500s to do the stained glass for Hampton Court. His movements after that are uncertain, but it has been suggested that his family may have moved with him and settled - and that this is the origin of the concentration of Hones in NW Surrey (Horsell, Windlesham, Chobham, Bisley, etc)and this concentration was certainly there in early 1600s. The Gloucestershire/ Warwickshire concentration of Hones could have come from Devon by migration up the Bristol Channel and the River Severn. This would also fit with the Brick Wall that some Hone researchers have met where one line seems to vanish (in Devon) in the mid-1500s Geoff Hone
