Hi to all with the same surname as mine. There are only a few of our family living in Kent and not sure how many of them have sons who the Barnsley clan can rely on to keep this name going. It would be interesting if any of you registered on this site with same surname are actually related (long distance) to my family. My father's parents moved to Dover/Deal area in Kent but it is not known how long ago and if his father/mother had kept in touch with their siblings. My father died in 1977 at an early age of 54, he married Rosemary Beer who lived in a village called Martin Mill, near Dover and incidentally is a surname that apparantely is one of the oldest in Kent. Both my father and mother came from quite large families, each having over 7 siblings who are dotted around Kent and possibly over England. I have only just started getting interested in my family history. I had one of those certificates you can purchase, which tells you the origin of your surname and once again, it is apparant that Barnsley is of French origin and, dare I say it, of royalty/nobility! I would love this to be true but I wonder if anyone else with this surname has done any research to find out if this is correct.
