Pilsel is thought to be of central European origin and may derive from associations with the town of Pilžn in the Czech Republic. The town was/is renowned for the production of tin, but is celebrity is founded more on its other product: light beer or lager (hence, the name: Pilsener Lager?). Pilsel (and derivations thereof, such as Pilsl) are fairly widespread throughout Austria and Germany. There is a small contingent in England (the result of a POW staying and marrying an English girl) and in Argentina (the result of emigrations from Germany and Austria after the Second World War. ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS NAME AND ORIGINS WOULD BE OF GREAT INTEREST.
