Learmont's that fell in the line of duty:- World War I Private James Learmont (Service 30310) of the 12th Battalion Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) Killed in action, France & Flanders on the 09/04/1917. Born in Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire. Buried in Ste. Catherine British Cemerty (H. 3.) Able Seaman Robert Learmont (Service Clyde Z/7250) of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Died on 31/12/1917. Buried in Flesquieres Hill British Cemetery (FR1483). Service history - Enlisted 18/11/15; Draft BEF 31/07/16. Joined Nelson Bn. 16/09/16-6/11/16 Pyrexia Unknown Origin, Invalided to UK 18/11/16 ; Draft for BEF 25/3/17, joined Nelson BN. 2/5/17-13/6/17 detached to 176th Tunnelling Company, rejoined Nelson BN. 25/09/17-31/12/17 DD Special Memorial (true grave lost from shell-fire); An engineer ; b 9/12/1896 Next of Kin was James (Father) and home address Thornglass, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright. World War II Sapper Reginald Learmont (Service 1906764) of the Royal Engineers. Died on the 05/05/1941 aged 23 in UK. Born in Salford Buried in Salford (Weaste) cemetery Sec A,10 Grave 933 Lance-Corporal George Learmont (Service 3129237) of The York and Lancaster Regt. Died on the 05/01/1944 aged 33 in Italy. Born in Perth. Son of George and Agnes Learmont of Pitlochry, Perthshire. Buried Cassino War Cemetery XVIII A. 3. Also the following Australian nationals:- Private Alexander Learmont (Service 1685) of Australian Infantry, A.I.F. Died 1/11/1916 aged 29. Son of Thomas and Agnes Scott Learmont, of Loudoun St, Mauchline, Ayrshire, Scotland. Buried in Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. Leading Aircraftman John Patrick Bruce Learmont (Service 421343) of Royal Australian Air Force. Died 5/9/1942 aged 25. Son of Robert Bruce and Mary Kathleen Learmont; Husband of Gwendolyn Learmont of Dover Heights. Buried in Rookwood Necropolis, Sydney.
