In the year 653AD King Oswy of the East Saxons was converted to Christianity by a zealous, itinirant preacher named Cedd (pronounced Ched). Cedd established a kind of monastry and villiage on a mound ('ey'in Anglo Saxon)in the midst of some West Country marshland. This settlement became known as Cedd's Ey (or Ched's Ey which becomes Chedzoy when spoken with a Somerset accent). I have more information on the above story as well as a number of named family photographs (but none of Cedd himself I'm afraid). Contact me for more details. David Campbell Chedgey.
