You are on the right lines Terence, although some of your information is incorrect. Hayes is from the Gaelic O'hAodha Septs. The O' before a name means 'grandson of' therefore we are the grandson of Aodh (the head of the Sept). Aodh means fire. The surnames 'Hughes' and 'O'Hea', as well as 'Hayes' all come from the O'hAodha Sept. However this is the Irish origins of the name. You need to find out if your origins are English or Irish as both are different. I am emailing you to let you know the history as well as the coat of arms because it is too much information to post here. |
