My Great Grandmother, Charlotte Winton gave birth to my grandmother, Edith at Mermaid Inn, Rye, Sussex where she was a resident chambermaid in about 1889. I understand my grandfathers name was Sidney Winton, who drove carriages and later became a blacksmith, in Stone, in Kent. Other children born to Charlotte were Sidney, George, Mildred, Jane/Jenny and Ethel, who died in childhood. Edith married Edward Tompkins, who was killed in 1914 in Europe. I hope someone reading this will possibly recognise a family name and make contact with me. Margaret Dyer-Forster, nee Mathews |
