My great-grandmother was Mary Ann Goring, born 1861 at Kirton End south of Boston in Lincolnshire. Her parents were Joseph, born 1840/45 and Eliza whose other children were Fanny (born 1865) Joseph (born 1870) Jamima (born 1873) Martha (born 1874) Rose (born 1876). There was a grandson, Albert, with them at the time of the 1901 census who was 18. All were born at Kirton or Butterwick except Fanny who has Comedale, York as her birthplace (this is actually Commondale, not far from Whitby.) She actually married a man named Hallam, had a son then left them both, but thereafter kept the name Hallam and registered all her subsequent children as Hallam. Her partner was James Goodman (b. Lincoln, Carrington) and their children were Grace, James, Walter (known as Dick) Albert, Victor (my Grandfather) and Eliza (known as Cissie.) By the 1901 census, James Goodman was calling himself James Hallam. Any connections? |
