Route family name. France - PAUL ALFONSO ROUTE fought in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71). He had two sons, PAUL ALOYSIUS and ALBERT. Of Albert, nothing further is known. England - PAUL ALOYSIUS ROUTE came to England and married MARTHA TRAIN Their son, PAUL ALBERT ROUTE (11th July 1881 - 19th October 1929), was born in Church Lane, High Street, Hull. Paul Aloysius was drowned when his son was about 6 months old - lost overboard in the North Sea (off the Dogger Bank). Paul Albert was subsequently educated at the Newland Home. He was a hairdresser by profession, and was married in January 1909 to OLIVE ANN KINGDOM. On the outbreak of war in 1914, he enlisted with the Royal Sussex Regiment (10/12/1914); he was "Transferred to Reserve" on the 19/02/19 with the rank of Sergeant in the Royal Engineers. He had served as a Stretcher Bearer and had been awarded the Military Medal. It is not known whether these two factors are connected. |
