My father-in-law was called Alexander Stratton. He was born in 1903 and died in 1976, aged 72. I don't know where he was born, but he lived in Northampton, Tarrant Gunville in Dorset, Woking, and Farnborough in Hampshire. He was involved with flight refuelling for Lancaster Bombers, and later was a civilian driving instructor, working for the Army. I believe he had a brother, whose name I don't know, but that he was half of the Stratton & Briggs garden mower company. I have been told that the name Stratton originates from the Roman for road builders, i.e. "Straight on." |
