Please can anyone help me make a connection between the Mckelvey/McKelvie family trees. In my family Legend has it that in the 18th century four brothers left Arran and settled in Northern Ireland changing the name to McKelvey. Although I think I may have found possible Arran connections I cannot find an absolute link, only a fragmented one. My GGGgrandfather William McKelvey (1822) who lived in Claudy had a son Robert, who to confuse the issue further came back to Scotland, lived in Glasgow and changed the name back to the Scots McKelvie spelling. What I cannot find out for sure is whether part of the family who lived in Altehoney Ireland, and other parts of Ireland too were also Scots/Irish or truly Irish. I would like ultimately to make the link between the four brothers (if there is any truth to this legend), and my GGGgrandfather William McKelvey who was married to Sara Stevenson and had children Robert, James, Jane, Ann and possibly a John, William or Alexander. I believe a branch of the family was in Ireland prior to the Arran lengend. Please there must be a McKelvie/McKelvey out there who can help. Kind Regards Sharon (nee. McKelvie) |
