The name Turnbull dates back to the thirteenth century when a young chap then called William Rule saved Robert the Bruce from a charging bull, and hence he became the first Turnbull. This story is disputed by some probably those whose names did not have such a heroic origin. There is a family crest which has three bulls heads. There is a hunting and dress tartan. The family motto is: I saved the king! The Turnbulls fought at the battle of Bannockburn where the Scots beat the English, I have been marched up to the top of the hill to see the monument by my father the late Robert Turnbull who was born at Bannockburn. I have little in the way of memorabillia, but do have Turnbull whisky labels originating from Hawick, and you may be lucky enough to find WC cisterns with the name Turnbull on them, as John Turnbull my grandfather who died when my father ws a baby was a plumber who brought mains water to Bannockburn.
