I have read that the surname Weetch originates from Wych, meaning 'someone who lives under a wych elm tree'. Since elm trees are known for dropping branches, it doesn't seem to be a very bright place to live. Could it be that the name is an anglo-saxon joke to describe the local village idiot? |
