Member Since: January 2003 Posts: 2 Send Message	the legend of the Burness name is as follows - The Ancestors of Robert Burns were the Campbells of Burnhouse later abbreviated to Burness or Burns. Tobert and his brother finally assumed the name Burns in 1786. In Scotland Burness and Burns were pronounced the same.
