My Grandfathre was born Thomas Alfred Tooke in Wolverhampton. The family in the 1881 census (by then living in Stone Staffordshire)consisted of George (Father) Harriet (Mother) John(5) Selina (4) and Alfred (4mths). By the 1891 census his father had died. His mother once widows remarried a Mr Cooper. My Grandfather ran away and joined the army, he was under age and his sister Selina (who married a Mr Moss) bought him out. He later re- enlisted in the Army and took the name of his Mothers Second Husband Mr Cooper. He left for South Africa to fight in the Boar War. From there instead of returning to England he went to India and joined the Police. Any infomation to help this part of my Ancestory I would be glad to here from you. We are in a sistuation where we thought our family name was Cooper and have now found out it is Tooke.
