Hi - My grandad William Merrin was born in Redruth Cornwall in 1920. He joined the Royal Navy before the war and fought in ww2 and was quite badly injured. His brother was Jack (real name John) and he also had a half brother Mick. His step mum was Annie. His dads name was John Hodge Merrin and his mum was Rosina (nee Butler) She died aged 36 yrs old before my grandad was 2 yrs old from bronchitis. Most of the family were in the tin mining industry as labourers etc. John Hodges mum was Elizabeth and it appears that she was a single mother to 3 children. My grandad died in 1995. He was married to phyliss (nee Reed) and had a son Terry. He moved from Cornwall to London to be with my nan and they lived in North London (Wood green) for many years, then after retired sepnt their final years in Basildon Essex. My nan (his late wife) died in January of this year. I was incredibly close to my grandparents and I now feel I need to know more about their family and backgrounds, to help deal with their loss. Any information that you have will be gratefully accepted. I now have a lot of information on this saide of my tree but there are still a few areas where I am lost so any info would be great. Thanks - Michelle |
