hi, i've been trying to find my paternal great grandparents, and i think I've found my great grandfather Arthur White ,on the warickshire 1901 census, i would really like to gain some more information about his life and further the family tree and i'm still trying to trace his wife gertrude may barton but hitting plenty of brick walls! the entry for arthur white on the census lists his mother and father as john and harriet white both from monmouthshire if anyone has any more information i would really appreciate it! also my dads cousin has found a certificate given to my great grandad after the first world war, where he apparantly spent a long time in india? the certificate is unfortunately faded but was rewarded for"gallant conduct an devotion to duty in the field" the dates and regiments are so faint and all i can make out is what i think says "6th p?? the ?arthars" regt, does anyone have any ideas?i believe he lived in hingeston st, hockly! also the award seems to say it was awarded on the "2nd and 3rd june 1917 during operation II OF chesroy", and its signed what looks like"c cunilffe, or tunniliffe, commanding 18th division????nan said her dad was a member of "the old contemptables"??? as i said the writing is barely visible and due to the italic font its hard to tell! if any of what i've put makes sense to anyone please contact me,many thanks, Clancy. |
