My father was Victor Albert Hayes born 1904 died 1977, known as 'Bill' to my mother, Mary Agnes. She was known as 'Molly' maiden name Winter. My father took his mother's surname, although she re/married? later. I believe his mother Virginia was born in Ireland. Victor Hayes was born in Deptford. He was eldest of 5 sibs, Eddie, Ruby, Eileen, Eddie,& Vera survivor of twin birth. His father was a salesman/publican named Louis Marks, I believe he was Jewish. Victor Hayes was divorced before he married my mother in 1944. His first wife was Danish, Johanna Frederickson. Victor my father was well known in Soho, where he grew up and later traded in musical instruments, with his partner, Lou Chester. His grandmother ran a herb stall in Berwick Street market. He was double bass player in 30's dance bands e.g. Harry Roy, Ambrose, Lew Stone, Debroy Summers etc. Anyone who has any history of any of these please contact me. |
