Any information appreciated on: Henry Shergold (born circa 1820) and wife Amelia Broomfield from New Forest Area. Their only found child - Albert Benjamin Shergold born 1841 in Minstead - New Forest. 4 daughters Rose Ellen b 1881 in Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire, Amelia E b 1867 Kate A b 1884 & Flora M b 1890. 3 sons - John b 1870 William b 1872 & James b 1887 (emigrated to America). Benjamin Shergold had already died at the time of Rose Ellen's marriage in May 1901. His brother Harry, was said to have been the 1st man to pilot an iron steamship up Southampton water in mid 1800's. Harry's son was a member of the crew of the Kaiser's yacht "The Meteor". Rose Amelia was left to raise her siblings as both parents died young and about the same time. Nothing known about Flora or Kate, but full details available about Rose Ellen Shergold who married Francis Henry HOPPER in May 1901 (my great grandmother) |
