Does anyone have a GEORGE CHALKE in their family tree, who was born about 1885. He was my grandfather, who divorced my grandmother and I have no definate records on him except for the marriage certificate. A possibility is a GEORGE CHALKE born 15th November, 1885 at Steep St, Mere , Wilts. The father is given as John Chalke, and the mother Elizabeth Chalke ( nee Hicks ). The father was a general labourer. I have this certificate, but cannot be sure that it is my gfather. My family were from Bournemouth. Another possibility turned up in the 1891 Census for the Alderbury(Salisbury) Union Workhouse. A GEORGE CHALK appears aged 6, scholar, born Britford,Salisbury, and ajacent entries are for ALICE CHALK, aged 2, inmate, born Salisbury,Wilts. Also JANE CHALK,aged 30, Single, Laundress, born Downton, Wilts. |
