Trying to find Metcalf

Hi, im trying to find some information on my gg grandfather CHARLES FREDRICK METCALF. I believe he was born around 1868, he married Rachel Roberts (born 1869) on 3/8/1889 in Durham. I have found information on their Marriage certificate stating that CHARLES FREDRICK METCALF's father was HENRY METCALF. But i can find no link or census information that links them, other than the marriage certificate. Infact the only information I can find with regards to 1881 census is as follows: Charles Metcalf - Holborn Union Industrial Schools - Surry (Birthplace Middlesex) Or Charles Metcalf - Grandson of Henry Metcalf of Durham (birthplace Suffolk) Is it possible that a grandfathers name was recorded on marriage certificate instead of fathers? Or is it likely that fathers & sons had same name? If anyone can help please get in contact!
