Susan Report 12 May 2003 03:35

I am looking for information on my great grandmother, Clara Connor/Conner and her parents, James Connor/Conner (a glass driller) and his wife, Jane. Jane was possibly Jane Taylor, who married James Connor on 20 Mar 1855 at St Martins', Birmingham. James and Jane had several children... Henry Born c 1857, Birmingham (per 1881 census) [Possibly GRO Jun 1857 6d p140 Birmingham] No christening details A glass driller Married Kate born c 1861, Birmingham Lived at 17 Suffolk Street, Birmingham (1881 census) They had a child called Florrie c 1880, Birmingham William Born c 1866 (per 1881 census) Christened 27 Dec 1857 at St Judes, Birmingham Ann Christened 4 Mar 1863 at St Judes, Birmingham James Born c 1866, Birmingham (per 1881 census) Christened 17 Jun 1866 at St Judes, Birmingham A glass blowers assistant on 1881 census Emily Born c 1869, Birmingham (per 1881 census) Christened 02 Jul 1871 at St Judes, Birmingham Clara Born c 1872, Birmingham (per 1881 census) Christened 02 Jul 1871 at St Judes, Birmingham Clara married William Henry Hughes, a blacksmith/axlesmith. Date and place unknown... They lived at the back of 28 Cape Street, All Saints Birmingham. They had many children including my grandmother, Emily Hughes born 20 Feb 1899. Arthur Born 1875, Birmingham (per 1881 census) No christening details known By the 1881 census Henry and Kate Connor/Conner were responsible for most of his siblings... James, Emily, Clara and Arthur Which raises the question - what had happened to their parents? A possible explanation is a James Connor who appears in the 1881 census, that appears as a 46 year old inmate of the lunatic asylum in Winson Green, Birmingham. Whose occupation was listed as 'Glass....' I have no information or leads as to what became of his wife Jane. Does anyone recognise any of the above information... Does anyone know what became of any of the above persons and their descendents/ancestors? Where can I get access to/copies of the christening and wedding certificates from St Lukes, St Martins etc? Is there anywhere, I can contact to get information about an inmate of the Winson Green Lunatic Asylum? Please help, I am completely stuck on this branch of my family tree! Any help would be gratefully received! Sue
