My grandmother Anastacia McBride came to England in 1912 from Youghal in County Cork. She married John Diprose and was known from then on as Alice. John's first wife had died leaving 2(?) sons and 1 daughter. John and Alice had 4 children, 2 boys (the eldest of which was my father) and 2 daughters. I believe she followed 2 other sisters to England. At least one brother, known as Fyn - I don't know if that was his given name - remained in Youghal until he died in 1972. He had owned a blacksmith's shop in the town but when there was less need for his services,he worked worked in a local factory. If anyone has any more information I would love to hear from you. |
