Trying to find MacDonald

John

John Report 25 Apr 2003 20:20

My grandfather, John, was born in Corrie, Lochbroom, near Ullapool, the son of John & Catherine Macdonald, in 1856. He moved to Westport, Co. Mayo in Ireland to become the butler to Lord John Browne and returned to Scotland during the Easter Uprising in 1916. My father was born in Westport and he had a sister who married a man called Howie and they had a son, possibly called Jimmy who became an American citizen and served in the American forces, She lived in Reading I visited the MacDonald museum on Skye and it appears my grandfather had 2 sisters called Mary & Peggy and another brother called Colin. On checking the various censuses from before 1861 the family forenames for the boys were John, Murdoch & Donald and the girls forenames were Ann, Catherine or Mary. Would love to hear from anyone who recognises these names or places.
