I am trying to trace relatives and ancestors of John Marshall, my grandfather(maternal). John was born around 1907 and lived around Cumberland for a lot of his younger life. His ?great-grandfather was a friend of William Wordsworth and Dorothy Wordsworth and is mentioned often in Dorothy's diaries. My grandfather was amongst other occupations a gardener and was employed by some of the large houses around Cockermouth, Aspatria and Bassenthwaite. John's father lived in Bassenthwaite, his cottage still stand but is derelict and he is buried in St. John's churchyard Bassenthwaite. I know that William is a common famil;y christian name and that the gypsy William Marshall mentioned in the publications about Yetholm Gypsies is an ancestor along with Jean Gordon known as Meg Merrilees another of the people mentioned in the history of Yetholm and it's Romany people. If any one can help me I would be very grateful. Ann (Margaret Ann Dixon) |
