PETER McCARTHY - I'm trying to find info on my Great Grandfather. YOB 1872, POB believed to be Limehouse/Poplar - East London, although the family originally came from Skibbereen,Co Cork. We know the family lived in 'Sofia Street'(Sophia?) Poplar at the turn of the century but found 3 families all of similiar size etc in the 1901 census! Peters father was John McCarthy (my Great,Great Grandfather) but no info on the 1901 Census ?. Peter married Ellen Coughlin in September 1903(a witness was a William Patrick McCarthy, 2 of whom lived in Sofia St?) and had 3 sons (no daughters ?),Peter,Eugene and James(Jim - Yob 1908) who is my Grandfather. The trail goes cold at Peter. The only other info we have is that he served in both the Merchant and Royal Navy between 1914-22. |
