I'm trying to get an image of the actual 1901 census page for JAMES WYNN b abt 1853, spouse CAROLINE, 8 children, (including James jnr) in 1901. I've looked on ancestry, which has them living in Rotherwick, Hants. and the info on the list tallies with whatI know. But when I access the 'view image' option, they're not on that page, nor on any of the 19 pages for Rotherwick. So where are they?? Could someone check on a different site, to see if there's a copiable image? IS there another site? I'm going to visit the g'daughter of James on Friday, and wanted to show her what her father and his sibs and parents were doing then. Can anyone help? Bx

Can't understand this, Reg. I've just tried again, and they're not there! Page 17 of 19, right? Bx

It defies logic............there is only one enumeration district for Rotherwick. Reg

I tried it too. They're not on that page or the one after. It doesn't make sense. I tried for Caroline and the same thing happens. Margaret

The only other site is the 'official' version.........viewing images can only be done on a pay-to-view basis on there. Reg

Thats what the transcription says, page 17, but if you look at the description of the enumeration district, that brings up a census page instead of description.

1901 census online says James is a working foreman in Rotherwick, but have no credits.

Not the image.......but at least it gives you the occupations of the two family members who were employed........... Alice Wynn 4 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick Annie Wynn 6 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick Caroline Wynn 43 Berks ... Hampshire Rotherwick Caroline Jy Wynn 10 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick Edward Wynn 11 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick Frances Wynn 7 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick James Wynn 8 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick James Wynn 48 Hants Stratfieldsaye Hampshire Rotherwick Working Foreman Joseph Wynn 3 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick William Wynn 13 Berks Swallowfield Hampshire Rotherwick Odd Boy Reg

You didn't 'see things'.......my message was inaccurate, and I deleted it! There seems to be a complete mess-up of this by Ancestry........the image which one gets when viewing the enumeration district description is a census page for a completely different village within the Hartley Wintney vicinity.......... Glad it's not just me! But another funny thing happened - Reg, did you put a message on right after my 1st one, saying you'd found it? Cos I replied to you, then it wasn't there! So, basically, ancestry have c***ed up, and there's nothing I can do to get the image? Damn! Bx

Keith- I don't understand what you mean about looking at 'the description of enumeration district' - how do you look at it? Do you mean, click on the 'view image' option? Sorry to be dense - blame it on ancestry, messing with my mind! Bx

Barbara, if you look above the census image, there is a link that says 'you are here', click on Rotherwick, this will bring up the district page, click on view enumeration district description. Reg will probably have looked at the transcription and copied the details from there in conjunction with 1901censusonline

The info I posted came from the official 1901 site. The description of the enumeration district can normally be viewed on Ancestry..........when you have an image on screen, look above it, just below the big red 'A', where you will see a line of info. Click on the place name..........last item before the district no........you then get a list of enumeration districts, and the option to view the description of each of them.......... Easier to do than to explain................ Reg

Reg- That's useful, thanks. But how did you get that? I've been going onto '1901 census', entering the name ect, clicking on the first record on the list (as that's got the right detail matches), then I get the printed list, and the option to 'view (wrong!) image'. How did you get the additional details of birthplace and occupation ? Bx

Reg and Keith- Thanks for all your help and explainations. Reg- One other query - what did you mean by 'official site'? Bx

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 May 2007 12:21

The NA site...just google 1901 census for the link......... Reg

Reg- 'NA'?? (Sorry - only been doing this for a few weeks - don't know much, yet.) Bx
