Can anyone help me find the details of the registration for the birth of Charlotte Ing c1810 in newcastle under lyme area.I found her on the 1861 census in St Saviours but i need to find out who her parents were and any siblings - Can anyone help. Kath

Hi MAureen, Yes i think Ing is her married name but i am not 100% certain as the record you have found is the only one i can find. I cant find the marriage or her birth so im really struggling. kath

She may have been born Charlotte Ing and just called herself a widow - if she'd had a couple of children she may have wanted to save face. I think you need to follow both options - married and unmarried - until you can find another trace of her. Jill

Do you know Charlotte's maiden name? Looking at the census, it says that she is a widow so I assume she was married to an Ing but called something else originally? You won't find her birth until you find out what her maiden name was. Sam x

Hi Kath It usually shows mother's married name and maiden name - although don't bank on it. One of my - obviously extremely dense - gr gr grandma's just showed her married name on the birth cert of her daughter which was no help whatsoever!! Jill

There are no birth registrations before 1837. The only record you may get lucky with is her baptism, for which you will need to access the appropriate Parish record, unless it is on the IGI. Reg

Noticing the coincidence of the Charles being son of William and Frances and Charlotte Shortland being the daughter of William and Frances.... It is entirely possible that Charlotte isn't her first name but perhaps a middle name and she went as Frances on earlier censuses....
