Hi Julie, I don`t think so - I think they were two seperate names. I`ve just had another look on IGI with the names reversed to Elizabeth Wilson Thomson and there is one there born on 2/10/1864 in High Church, Glasgow. Parents -William Thomson & Marian Hamilton. I wonder if this could be her ????? Jeanette

Julie, I haven`t got Elizabeth`s parents. I`m trying to find out who they were but if they are not on the censuses the only other way is when Mhairi finds the marriage of John & Elizabeth in 1888 - unless Elizabeth`s name has been recorded the other way round - ie Elizabeth Wilson Thomson. This is the way it has been put on their son William`s birth & marriage certificate. Also William`s daughter Elizabeth has the middle names Wilson and Thomson in that order. Can you find anything in 1871 for her with the names reversed ? Jeanette

Have found the parents marriage in Co Down Ireland on 31st dec 1851 but no birth recorded on IGI for Hugh Jeanette

I have found all of the Patterson children from the 1871 census on IGI apart from Hugh who was born in Ireland. The parents are the same on all - William Patterson and Eliza Anderson. I wonder if they married in Ireland ? Just going to take a look now. Jeanette

can't find them on the 1861 Hugh was born in Ireland

Have been on IGI - the father was William Patterson and mother Eliza Anderson. I cannot find a marriage though. Hamilton was born on the same day as John Paterson so they were twins. This could explain why he chose to call his first son Hamilton. Jeanette

Hi Julie, That could be the family because John called his first son Hamilton and on this census there was a brother called Hamilton. It looks as if his mother, Elizabeth was a widow ? Jeanette

I want to find out who the parents of the couple in my previous thread were so would someone please see if they are still living at home in 1881. John Paterson ( spelled Patterson on 1891 census ) born c1864 -1866 in Pollockshaws, Renfrew Elizabeth Thomson Wilson born c 1863 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.
