To find folk in the 1920s you need to use the electoral rolls, street directories, phone books etc. These only list the adults eligible to vote/householders. Finding births, marriages and deaths means trawling through the GRO indexes checking every quarter of every year for likely names in the right area. You could search other family trees on this site for the same surname. Use the Find your family section in the left hand green menu.

Gordon's birth cert will give his parents' names and his father's occupation. But I cannot find a Gordon Woosey born anywhere in any quarter of 1922 or 1st quarter of 1923. There are no Wooseys in Portsmouth on 1901 census. In fact, all the Wooseys I;ve found in census and birth indexes have been in Lancashire.

Using the death index date of birth for Gordon I checked Sep q of 1923: There's a birth for Gordon Woosey, mother's maiden name Harkness, in Chester-le-S[treet] vol 10a p.1184.

If the death enry I have found is correct then this is the only Gordon Woosey that ties in but the area is totally wrong: Woosey, Gordon Mothers Maiden name Harkness, district Chester Le Street. Volume 10a Pg 1184
