Thanks to both of you. Sorry for delay in replying but been on Free BMD looking for a Mary Ann death to see if he was a widower, but site so slow at the moment I gave up! I have him and sarah on the 1871 and his birthplace says leckhampstead, Bucks. By then my gt grandmother Mary Jane has been born and is shown along with Charles, james, Sarah Ann, harriet and William.

Hi Julie, I don't know if he's your man or not (i couldn't find him in 1841). However the 2 and 3 year old girls would have been old enough by 1861 to be working away from home. The baby is the only one who probably would'nt be (although I do have a relative who was a servant away from home at the age of 10). Maybe the baby died? Sorry, can't think of anything else, and he was the only one born the date you gave +/- 2 years, that I could find. Kath. x

Hi Kath, thanks for looking for me. I'm not sure if he wouldhave been married before as on the 1861 I have him with Sarah and their children Charles aged 4, James aged 3 and Sarah Ann aged 1 in Tower Hamlets London. His occupation is a bootmaker though so that fits but I suppose it wasn't a very unusual occupation though was it?! If he was married before where would the children have gone, assuming he was a widower. i don't know if it was very likely to get divorced in those days. Thanks for your time. julie

If someone has time could I ask for a look up on 1841 and 1851 for a JAMES GILES born c. 1825 in Leckhampstead Buckinghamshire. I think he would either still be in Bucks or may have moved to Middlesex, London by then. In 1851 he may possibly be with his wife Sarah who was born c. 1833 in Middlesex. Hope this isn't too vague. Thank you. Any info such as address, other occupants etc appreciated.
