I have found what I think is my ancestor. Charles Strong (on 1851 census) age 42-it says he was born at Sampford Peverell (Vivell). Howevere his wife Elizabeth and son (Henry born 1836 Kennerleigh are not with him-but I have them definitely as visitors nearby. Charles entry in 1851 does not say whether he is married or widowed but his Wife elizabeth says she is married but her husband is not with her.-so does look likey The ages match and I know they were married in 1834 Elizabeth Howard/Charles Strong Sandford. How can I be sure this is my Charles? also if I do find a baptism for a Charles Strong in 1807-How do I make sure its there correct one-because the IGI aren't complete are they-I'm really woried I might folllow someone elses ancestors! |

Are Charles and Elizabeth together in 1841and 1861 - with matching places of birth and occupation? I know 1841 doesn't give place of birth but it will at least say if he was/was not born in the county which is something. As for as 'your Charles' - it is time to look at the parish records. I would imagine his middle name of Strong will be a help in narrowing the field when looking for Charles Sandfords. It sounds as if you have already found the record of his marriage to Elizabeth - and if not, you should check this out too. Victoria |

Good glad someone agrees with me-I also know it is my Henry Charles Howard Strong. (The son) The mother Elizabeth was called elizabeth Howard and when Charles and elizabeth married in 1834-Sandford,devon they then gave henry (Born 2 years later) the 'Howard' part in his name as well (and he is son of the same name later on.) I have him onwards and have one of his marriage certs and it states his father as charles-farm labourer (Deceased) I have found a death for charles in 1859 and Elizabeth married again to a James Alford in 1860 or 1861 (Can't remember of hand) Henry then disappears off censuses as he went to India in the army and returns by 1881 -I have all of it from then on-Its going back thats hard!-thanks. |
