I don't know if this is of any help at all, but I understand the 'Mermaid' sailed from London on Oct 26th 1864 and arrived in Littleton, NZ on Jan 21st 1865. Maybe they moved down to London before 1861 - I think there a quite a few sections missing of the 1861 census in that area? Myfanwy |

I'm intrigued by them sailing. Northamptonshire is inland so maybe there is a record of them sailing from a port somewhere? Gwyn |

Can anybody find the following family in 1861 please.....(i have Faith and William before marriage in 1841) 1851: Name: Faith Bowman Age: 27 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824 Relation: Wife Spouses's Name: William abt 1822 Gender: Female Where born: Malton, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Bridlington Town: Bridlington County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Street address: North Back Lane. Registration district: Bridlington Sub-registration district: Skipsea ED, institution, or vessel: 6e Household schedule number: 69 Household Members: Name Age Faith Bowman 27 born Malton, Yorkshire John Wm Bowman 8 Bridlington, Yorkshire, Richard Bowman 4 Bridlington, Yorkshire, Thomas Bowman 7 Bridlington, Yorkshire, William Bowman 29 is a Ag lab. Bridlington, Yorkshire I have found Richard c1847 and Thomas c1844 in Bridlington, Yorkshire in 1861, but i can see no trace of the others... The family emigrated to NZ in 1864. They sailed from North Hamptonshire and have been found on shipping list where other Bowman children are listed too Jane (11) c1853 Rachel A (8) c1856 Mary (7) c1857 All went to NZ as well as Thomas (18) and Richard (17) on the 'Mermaid' arriving Jan 21st 1864.
