I am helping a friend to find her ggg grandparents, Charles Howe and Elizabeth Montague's marriage. I could not find any records of them for a year. She has been looking for many years without success. A son of her ggg grandparents was Alfred John Howe who was born around 1854 in London and lived until he was 22 years old to migrate to Australia. Sometimes he is named Alfred Hubert Howe and John Howe. However, we could not find his birth certificate. I found one possible in 1851 census that there was a family in Devon. Charles and Elizabeth Howe were with Ernest B. 1843, Frank B. 1841 and Hubert B. 1845 in Islington, Middlesex. I could not find them in 1861 & 1871 census. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steven from Australia.

The birth c1854 may not have been registered.....it wasn't until 1875 that registration became compulsory. Reg

The fact that the person she seeks has used various forenames doesn't simplify things.........lol! Reg

Does Alfred's marriage certificate and / or death certificate name his parents, or at least his father? Kate.

Hello Reggie, thank you for your time to find some censuses. That's interested they were not in 1861 census. I was hoping to find Alfred Howe with the family. I was surprised to find Alfred John Howe in FreeBMD that was Dec 1853 in Islington. It must be update. So the 1851 census the Howe family were in Islington. It must be right family, I hope. My friend will order this birth certificate. Yes, Alfred's parents' names were on his marriage and death certificates in Victoria. Maybe his parents never been married or they might be married before Sep 1837. There is interested that Alfred's children names were Elizabeth Lily, Henry Charles, Frank Ernest and Alfred Hubert. I just found out about them recently. So it looks like same family in the censuses. Thanks again.
