Brenda, you have probably seen on Who Do You Think You Are that people can just go into the register office and look through the birth, marriage and death certificates, but I'm afraid that for us non-celebrities, that is not possible! What you will need to do is to look through the GRO indexes for the reference for the certificate you want and order it from the GRO, or order it from the local register office for the district where it was registered, in which case you give them all the info you have but don't need the GRO ref. It usually costs £7 for a certificate whichever you order it from. Kate.
