Does anybody have census index to 1891 & 1881?

I am having real trouble tracking down a relative who seems to go by the name of Charles Hubbard or Charles Jones! He was Charles Jones on his marriage cert and Charles Hubbard on his death cert and his children seem to be called Jones on one census and then Hubbard on another! I have his eldest daughters birth cert - she was born on 11/11/1889 at 39 Green Hundred Rd, Peckham - Elsie Hubbard. I cannot find Charles at all in 1891 (although the rest of the family are in Guernsey at that point) so wondered if he might be at Green Hundred Rd. Does anybody have a census index so I would know where to look - I have access to Ancestry. I would also like to look in 1881 if at all possible. Would be really grateful, Many thanks, Lorraine

Hi I tracked down the address on my 1891 disc and have now found it on Ancestry. There were Hubbards living at no's 39 and 41 and there is a Charles who is possibly the father of the one that you are looking for. On the 1891 form on Ancestry just put in the name Charles Hubbard and down at the bottom where it says RG/12 put in the no 484 and that should find him. Maureen

Thank you so much for the help. Maureen I'm sure that is his father at No. 41 and that the Henry at No. 39 is his brother. I also think that the lodger by the name of Charles Lee is actually Charles Hubbard as the age fits and so does the occupation. I don't know what he has done to want to be incognito - I have a theory that he went AWOL from the army and changed his name for a while. Anyhow, that really helps me with the next leg of my research and also helps confirm that his name was actually Hubbard and he only used Jones when he got married. Thanks also for the help with the 1881 census - I have found who I think are Charles family but they weren't living at Green Hundred Rd at that time. Lorraine

Hi Lorraine, I know how you feel. I have posted a 'help' request on the Tips board as my lot used the a combination of the names Austin, or Williamson and Austin Williamson for census's and registrations. Why, I don't know other than the fact that grandma's maiden name was Williamson but only one of her children actually used the name at some point. How inconsiderate of them. Best wishes Joan
