Hi Kathryn, I wish I could help, but I will come back to this thread as I am interested to see if anyone can tell you about the school. My mother lived in the area from 1917 and talked a lot about the area but never mentioned this school. I was married at All Saints, Stranton (although much later of course), but don't remember any talk of a school. Kath. x |

Hi Gary Been doing some research for you on the Historical Directories site. http://www(.)historicaldirectories.org There is reference to a Church School which was originally set up for poor children with monies donated by Ann Crooke on the death of her brother John Crooke in 1742. The school was for 142 boys, regular attendance 159. 'Gave cetain lands in the township of Stranton' 'at the junction of Brougham and Moor streets' 'Joseph Gibson Howston, master' Send me a PM if you want the image. Elly |

I believe it is the same place. As far as I can gather it had a link with All Saints Church and was in the area where the old co op building occupies. Kathryn |

I was born in Hartlepool, and I must admit I have never heard of the school. I tried googling, and found a page where someone was researching her family tree and had an ancestor called William Tate, and it said that he was well known in the Stranton area and was a schoolteacher at Fulthorpe Chapel. Could this be the same place? Kath. x |

Hi I have spent some time trying to find information about Fulthorpe School in Hartlepool. It was opened in 1841 in the Stranton area of West Hartlepool and closed sometime before 1930. I believe that two of my ancestors may have worked at the school and have been looking for information without any luck. If anyone knows anything about this school I would be grateful, Regards Kathryn |
