I did wonder why that waqs because on some places they list ALbert as Female. So it is possible she's there but not recorded. Thats useful.

Could be a simple mistake by the enumerator when he was writing it down. He was clearly confused because he has written age 3 in both male and female boxes for Albert.

Yeah it's looking that way. I just cannot understand why she's not on the 1891 census i can understand her visiting her sister at the age of 13 but to be absent at the age of 3 is worrying to me. I know where sarah was in 1891, she was in service as a maid in chester. Her sister Emily in Oxton and her two brothers in birkenhead with the parents. But i am lost to find the elder sister Ada and Ethel.

If you don't have Ethel's birth certificate, I would be inclined to buy it. Could Ethel actually be Sarah's child (born illegitimately) and perhaps John and Elizabeth brought her up as their's for the first couple of years and then Sarah brought her up after that. Sorry, can't think of any explanation really, but I think you need her birth certificate. Kath. x

Yeah but my main concern is if they are twins, why on earth at the age of 3 was she not living with her parents. My only soloution is that she is wit her eldest sister Ada who is absent on the 1891 census yet lives with her mother on the 1901 census. But unless i find either of them i wonn't know.

Well heres her birth Dec qtr Birkenhead 8a 472 Albert is Birkenhead 8a 471. No problems tho cos when the registrar gets to the bottom of the page then he turns over so altho they are on dif pages they would have been reg at the same time

I'm as certain as i can be. The thing is i've known about the severn side for ages but i've only just discovered Ethel she was a complete surprise. It's the 1901 census that made me look as her sister is married to james Fletcher and Ethel is listed as his sister in law. Sarah is definatly Albert's sister.

Are you certain they are twins? I see they have consecutive page numbers in the birth index, but they could be cousins. If you are sure they are twins it seems strange they are not both with the parents. Kath. x
