Doing this on the off chance that someone out there may know of some history of Edinburgh. My family are originally Connolly's who came from Ireland and lived in the slums of Edinburgh. Can't go any further back because not sure how to go about finding information on people from Ireland. My family all lived a few closes (small streets) away from James Connolly's family in the Cowgate area. Not sure if any connection but worth a try. James Connolly went to St Patricks Church and School as did my family. The other side of my family are Slaven's from Co Monaghan (as are James Connolly's). Any help would be great on either James Connolly or families that came to Edinburgh from Ireland after the famine.

James Connolly was born on June 5, 1868, in the Cowgate, Edinburgh, a slum known locally as 'Little Ireland'. His parents, John and Mary Connolly, hailed from County Monaghan originally. John worked as a carter, and Mary as a servant, the drudgery of which took her life early. James had two elder brothers, Thomas and John, and attended a local school until the age of 10, when he joined the same newspaper as his brother Thomas, cleaning the rollers of dried ink. Had a quick look on S-P James born 05/06/1868 his mother is a Mary Mcginn not Slaven.
