I have Charles Strong born approx 1815 on a 1841 census. in Devon England-he is married to Elizabeth (Howard) born about the same time-they married in Sandford,Devon in 1834. How Can I find out more about Charles? All I know is he deid in 1859 Sandford Devon. They had a son Henry Charles Howard Strong in 1836 and I have him and his goings on till his death in 1914. I would dearly love to go back further with Charles. but don't know where to start-any help please? |

Anything pre-1837, best port of call if its not on www.familysearch.org is the relevant county records office for parish registers. You may find transcriptions with the local family history society, or you can order relevant parish registers on microfilm at your nearest LDS centre. |

Hi, The relevant marriage entry in the parish registers will not give you the fathers names unfortunately, I have copies of the same and they only give the couples names and witness names. Sorry Keith |

So now you go back a generation and try to find Charles Strong's baptism and/or that of his wife. If you are lucky they will have been born in the Parish. (Why I am I the only person who consistently DOES find the father's names recorded in Parish Registers????) Make note of the witnesses names for the marriage - they may turn out to be relatives and this in turn may help you sort out who is who, if there is more than one Charles Strong. OC |
