James Alford born C 1811-1817 Sandford,Devon. Got him in 1881 with wife elizabeth and grandson William. Cannot find him in 1901 and a possible death found for 1895-Can anyone see him in between please. And if so where-and what ocupation please?

Hi DD, Can't find any James in 1891. May have the grandson, though. Was he born c1847? William Alford 44, Sandford Sarah Wife 34, Winkleigh William 8, Amelia M 7, Laura 6, Rhoda E 3, James D 2? all born Ide. Sarah Dart Wid 65 Pauper, Wembworthy All in Ide Debbie

Hi DD 1891 William Strong Appr Unm 20 Wheelwright, Sandford At the Hare & Hounds, with John Mortimer & family (Wheelwright & Innkeeper) in Sandford. Can't find him in 1901. Debbie

William on the 1901 is a boarder in Alphington, home of: Charlotte Davey. He's born Allarbad, India and occ; Wheelwright. Has middle initials H.J also by this time. 1891 has him born 1862, 81 and 1901 has him 1871.

DD, Your message says James Alford bn 1811-1817. Have found the 1881 entry you refer to, but this gives his age as 54, giving him a birth year of c1827. Which is correct, please? Debbie

Debbie, the James Alford on 1881 as born 1827 is the one, but on all previous census he's listed as born between 1811 and 1817.

This One Him, James Alford Age 54 Dob 1827, Born Sandford Devon, St Address Hattins, Occupation Farmer of 7 Acres, Reg Dist Crediton. Sub Dist Cheriton Fitzpaine, ED 10, Others, Elizabeth Age 67, William Strong Age 10 grandson Born In India. Barbara.

Thanks to all who looked -Yes thats him-ALl correct .William is william henry john Strong and he married the Davey's daughter Bessie in Alphingotn in 1902. James birth date is a bit odd! seems to suit himself- wish I could do that-Thanks for all your help-and sorry I disappearded earlier-had to run to school. William date/age on 1891 are right-the transcription is wrong-the image is corect though-ten years difference!
