Hi Reg Well the 1851 census doesnt help at all really - i have a couple of choices for John born in Stroud (both state birth year is 1821) so its difficult to know which is correct. Charlotte doesnt apprear anywhere - in fact I couldnt find a charlotte that is born in Gloucestershire or Worcestershire in 1832 give or take 5 years or so. 1841 is more helpful but the only Charlotte I can born in the above areas is living in stow on the wold and just has the birth place as Gloucestershire. John Aldridges dates tie in with hime either living in Cheltenham with wife Frances (but his daughter Selina was born in stroud and then they moved to cheltenham) so this doesnt seem right - or living in Kings Stanley with wife Charlotte (but the age is all wrong) and they also had a daughter called Charlotte that I know nothing about. This would place Charlotte as being born in 1819?? this doesnt seem right. I know Charlotte was illiterate but thats about it - I have been bashing my head against a brick wall for ages trying to sort this out. Regards Gill

Thanks to all who looked up John Aldridge and Charlotte Archer for me. The problem is I know they had children named Selina, Lucy, Alfred and John and they were living in Stroud and then Cheltenham. I know Charlottes maiden name was archer although on the census she is named as Aldridge. What I cant find is a marriage for them and I am finding it difficult to work out which familys they belong to. Charlotte was born in Evesham in about 1832 and John was born in Stroud in about 1822. The family rumour is that Charlotte was related to Fred Archer the jockey - but I cannot be sure this is correct. Does anyone have any idea how I can find who their parents were? Thanks Gill
